GSTF Partners with CCU to Grow the Game
Students at Coastal Carolina University will soon have the opportunity to learn the business side of running a tennis club through a new elective course offered this fall in the Tennis Management Program.
Designed to explore tennis not only as a sport but also as a career path, Intro to Tennis Management will be led by experienced local tennis professionals with a strong background in coaching and facility operations.
The course will cover topics such as tennis programming, player development, customer service, court scheduling and maintenance, event and tournament management, sports marketing and promotion, and revenue generation.
One of the most exciting aspects of the course is the opportunity for students to complete a paid internship at nearby tennis facilities, gaining valuable hands-on experience, says Dr. Kelly Elliott, Associate Professor at CCU.
“There’s already been a lot of interest expressed on campus.”
Funding for these internships comes from the Grand Strand Tennis Foundation, the USTA Southern Innovation Fund, and participating tennis clubs.
“This collaboration is an example of how community support strengthens academic programs at CCU,” notes Dr. Elliott. “We hope to generate even more interest in the career opportunities available within the tennis industry.”
